10 Ways to Make Your House Cozy for Fall
Here are ten small ways you can create warmth and coziness in your homewithout breaking the budget - just in time for fall.
2. CHANGE BEDDING If your bedding is reversible (like those we carry in the store) changeit to the other side for a different look. Change the cover of your decorative cushions to ones with deeper, richer colors – either one that matches the color family of your bedding, or change accessory color altogether.
3. CHANGE your ACCENT COLOR If yellow or pale green was your accessory color for the spring/summer season, change this to a deeper green and / or gold. 4. EMBELLISH your WINDOW TREATMENTS Add decorative side panels to your window treatments. Swing rods are perfect for this. Based on window treatment designs of the late Victorian – early 20th century, these rods hold fabric panels to the side of your regular treatment. 5. ADD a VALANCE If you have plain blinds of any type add a valance in a rich color that coordinates with your room’s décor It adds contrast and warmth.
6. CHANGE your RUGS Change rugs, or, if you don’t have one – get one in a rich color scheme. Rugs not only add comfort and warmth to a room, they also anchor furniture groupings and as Martha Stewart once said “that’s a good thing”.
7. CHANGE your ACCESSORIES Remove all those light-color, small or transparent glass accessories you put out for the summer and replace them with those that are more substantial in color, size and material.
8.ADD DECORATIVE TOUCHES Add decorative touches such as tie backs, tassels, fireplace mantle scarves, and lace runners. These little details create cosiness too. 9.CHANGE your FLORALS Change your floral arrangements to those flowers that have rich deep hues. 10. MAKE your FIREPLACE LOOK GREAT Give your fireplace pride of place. Take extra care with decorating your mantle. If you don’t have a real fireplace consider getting a new “faux” fireplace. It’s amazing the ambiance that is created even if it’s not real.
