About From Times Past Ltd.

The mission of From Times Past, in business since 1994, is to inspire and help building owners to appreciate and preserve their heritage buildings.

We accomplish this through personal consultation, project planning, seminars and courses, articles published, and involvement in the preservation movement.

We specialize in working with residential or commercial clients who understand the importance of maintaining the integrity and character of their buildings.

Some of our commercial projects have included the Glenora Bed and Breakfast, a C1912 restored rooming house, The Union Bank Inn, a restored bank , and the historic J.J. MacKenzie House, now an office for a local legal firm. Private clients include both heritage home owners as well as individuals who simply enjoy the personality and ambiance that heritage home styling gives any home.

Owner Johanne Yakula graduated from the Textiles and Metals program at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary and completed the Residential Interiors program with honors at the University of Alberta . For the last 25 years Johanne has been involved in adult continuing education and is currently an instructor for the Residential Interiors program at the U of A. She has also been a keynote speaker at many events. For the past 14 years she has worked as an antique dealer and interior decorator specializing in heritage home restoration and decoration.

Johanne, past president of SPARE ( Society for the Protection of Architectural Resources in Edmonton), is currently a board member of the Historic Resources Review Panel, and the Highlands Historical Foundation. She writes a regular column for Legacy Magazine, and has written for Discovering Antiques, Edifice Magazine and Heritage Home among others. Currently she is traveling the province photographing heritage homes, interviewing the owners for her book on heritage homes of Alberta.
